Description
The Nikonos is a classic underwater camera produced by Nikon in 1975. It is based on a design from the 1950s and is considered to be the best Nikonos of this design. The camera is surprisingly light weight and small. The finder is bright and easy to use. The shutter advance/release lever features an aftermarket release to make this camera easier to use with a flash. It has the added bonus of making this camera easier to shoot with while wearing heavy gloves.
This is a scale focus camera. The knobs on either side of the lens allow the user to adjust the focal distance and aperture. The scale is displayed on the front of the lens showing the range of distances that will be in focus for a given aperture setting.
While we can’t recommend this camera for underwater use without a pressure test to ensure the seals are still water tight at depth, this is an excellent camera for skiers, kayakers, and paddle-boarders. It is rugged and waterproof with a sharp 35mm lens. This particular example comes with the aftermarket shutter lever, wrist strap, knob covers, lens cap, extra seals, and silicone grease.
